FOCUS ON… Current transformations of Gender Regimes and the Struggle of Gender Scholars in Turkey

Am 21.06.2017 findet eine Veranstaltung zu aktuellen Transformationen von Gender Regimes in der Türkei und der Kampf kritischer (Gender-)Wissenschaftler*innen von 12.30 bis 19 Uhr in Oldenburg statt. Under the neoconservative regime as well as in the context of refugee politics, not only gender regimes in Turkey have changed, but in the state of emergency also the opportunities for academic research and analysis of current developments. Critical scholars are dismissed or forced to retire, especially if they signed the petition of “Academics for Peace”. How do critical scholars in the field of Gender Studies act within this circumstances? How is the current situation of Gender Studies Departments, Gender Studies students and scholars at universities in Ankara or Istanbul? And what kind of support is needed, what is possible? We will discuss with Turkish scholars, including professors, Ph D-candidates and students, two main topics: * Gender Studies Departments under the State of Emergency * Transformations of Gender Regimes in Turkey Additionally, research projects and other activities will be presented. The conference is organized by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women’s and Gender Studies Research (Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg) in cooperation with the Goettinger Centre for Gender Studies; Network Gender and Migration @ Niedersachsen. * Registrations: please send an email to zfg[at]uni-oldenburg.de The language of presentations and discussions will be English.
